The Business Case for Menopause Care
Apr 07, 2026The case for menopause support in the workplace is a matter of good business.
Research shows that one in four women consider leaving their roles during the menopause transition. Most of them don't. But they carry the weight of unaddressed symptoms into every meeting, every performance review, and every moment they are asked to lead at full capacity without the information or support to do so.
Less than 10 percent of organizations currently address menopause in any structured way. For the other 90 percent, the cost of unsupported menopause symptoms costs an estimated $1.8 billion annually – in missed workdays alone. That figure that does not account for the quieter costs, including:
- Reduced productivity
- Disengagement
- Loss of experienced women at the height of their leadership contribution
In the video below, Dr. Sarah Berg, Selfority founder and board-certified OB-GYN, and Menopause Society Certified Practitioner sits down with Kacy Fleming, founder of The Fuchsia Tent and a leading voice in workplace menopause strategy in the country.
Kacy brings a perspective that is rare in this space: more than two decades of biopharmaceutical leadership, including her tenure as Head of Global Well-Being at Takeda Pharmaceuticals, where she designed and managed well-being programs for 50,000 employees globally. She is an organizational psychologist, a TEDx speaker, a published author, and a three-time Business Group on Health Award winner.
She is also someone who, despite all of that expertise, found herself blindsided by her own perimenopause.
The conversation covers what employers are actually getting wrong, what it takes to move menopause from a topic organizations avoid to one they actively build infrastructure around, and why it needs to be a retention and leadership conversation, not just a wellness program add-on.
